PU co-curricular contests begin today

LAHORE: Aimed at promoting national solidarity the second five-day All Pakistan Co-curricular competitions 2018 will begin on Monday (today) at Punjab University IER with participation of over 1,500 students from Punjab, Sindh, KPK, Balochistan and Kashmir in 14 competition categories.

According to a press release issued here on Sunday, the event is a joint venture of Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC), Punjab University, The Educationist, NAB and Lahore College for Women University. Punjab Higher Education Commission Chairman Dr Nizamuddin is the chief guest of the opening ceremony at Faisal Auditorium. The ceremony would be held in four halls of the university simultaneously including Faisal Auditorium, Al-Razi Hall and Waheed Shaheed Hall from April 23 to April 27. Around 920 participants are from Punjab, 15 from Sindh, 11 from KPK, 18 from Balochistan and 5 from Kashmir. Furthermore, groups of students from schools all around Pakistan will be visiting.

The main purpose of conducting this mega event is to promote national unity and harmony among provinces. It aims to provide a chance to people coming from different provinces to come forward and talk with one another. The event comprises competitions of Qirat, Naat, Debates (Urdu, English, Punjabi), Photography, Essay writing, Poetry, Painting, National Songs and Theatre Dramas among school and university students in three separate categories including School Junior, School Senior and College/University.

certificates: Punjab Nursing Director General Kausar Parveen has said in every sector appreciation certificates must be awarded to those who are performing up to the mark and field of nursing has special emphasis in this regard.

She was addressing a function held at Neuro Surgery Unit-2 of Lahore General Hospital (LGH) where 17 nurses were awarded with certificates, according to a press release issued here on Sunday. Professor of Neuro Surgery Dr Khalid Mahmood attended the ceremony. Kausar Parveen lauded the efforts of Prof Khalid Mahmood on introducing new techniques in neuro surgery and said it has been proved ‘our doctors have full capability to meet any challenge and bring innovations in medical field’. The DG nursing said apart from appreciation strict discipline compliance also being observed for nurses and inquiry has been initiated against those two hospitals’ nurses who found using mobile phones during their duty time. She said the government has given special emphasis on equipping the nurses with modern education and training and 4th badge of nurses has been sent to Turkey which would come back as master trainer to provide training to other nurses as well. She said this step would help directly to extend better medical facilities to the patients. Kausar Parveen said nurses who completed specialisations must be posted in wards otherwise action would be initiated against nursing superintendents.
