The District West police claimed gunning down a criminal and arresting five suspects in raids and encounters on Friday.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Omer Shahid Hamid said that police received information in the afternoon that two robbers had snatched cellphones and a wallet having cash and ID cards from a citizen, Zeeshan, son of Mohammad Siddique, and were fleeing from the scene near Habib Chowrangi on Fakhruddin Valika Road in SITE.

The complainant, who is an assistant sub inspector, shouted for help and tried to chase them when a mobile of SITE-A Police Station arrived and went after the robbers. On seeing the police, the suspects opened fire, which was retaliated. During the exchange of fire, the two were caught in an injured condition.

Two 30-bore pistols with ammunition and looted goods were seized from the possession of the suspects, who were identified as Faizan Majeed and Bilal Altaf. Majeed succumbed to injuries while being shifted to hospital.

Based on the statement of ASI Zeeshan, an FIR was registered and an investigation started. SSP Hamid said a mobile of Saeedabad Police Station was on a routine patrol when four suspects on two motorcycles were escaping from Katcha Road near the Sector 12 graveyard.

A passer-by, Abdul Rasheed, made a noise about their escape. Seeing this, the police mobile gave a chase and succeeded in apprehending them. The suspects were identified as Harisson, Sunny Manzoor, Waqar Younus and Asif.

Three 30-bore pistols, a TT pistol and snatched property -- Rs4,300, coloured CNIC copy and a motorcycle – were seized from them. During the interim interrogation, the four admitted to committing 50 to 60 street crime acts in different parts of the city.
