Man killed for choice marriage in Nawankot

LAHORE: A man was killed while his mother and wife received injuries in a firing incident reportedly for honour in the Nawankot police limits on Monday.

Police said the suspects identified as Muhammad Tariq and two unidentified persons barged into the house of Akram Wattoo and opened fire. As a result, three persons Adil Akram, 19, his wife Fariha Adil and his mother Safiya Akram, 40, received bullet injuries. They were admitted to nearby hospital where doctors pronounced Adil dead.

On information of the incident, police and rescue teams reached the spot. Police removed the body to morgue, collected forensic evidences from crime scene and also recorded statements of the eye-witnesses. Initial investigations suggested that it was an incident of honour killing. The victim had contracted love marriage few months back and the family of his wife were annoyed on it.

On the day of the incident, they barged into the house and opened fire at them. Police said that they were conducting raids to arrest the suspects. Rape attempt on minor: Another incident of rape attempt on a minor girl was reported in Batapur area here on Monday.

The girl’s grandmother in a complaint to police said: “She lived in Bhatta Pind. On April 15, her granddaughter was playing outside her house with her brother in the evening. Meanwhile, suspect Umair grabbed the hand of her granddaughter and forcefully took her to a nearby Haveli (outhouse). After sometimes, the family members of the girl noticed that the girl’s brother, Arham, was playing alone and her sister was not with him. Noticing her absence, they started her search and reached the Haveli where they saw that the accused had taken her to a deserted room and was attempting to assault her. On seeing the family members, the accused fled.”

Police registered a case and transferred it to Anti-Violence against Gender Cell of Lahore Police. One dead, 20 injured: A man was killed and 20 others were injured in an accident in Raiwind police limits here on Monday.

A staff bus carrying passengers was going to a factory when it reached Raiwind Road, it collided with a dumper and a bike. As a result, at least 21 people were injured, and the bus and bike were damaged. One of the injured died on the spot while others were admitted to THQ Hospital Raiwind by Rescue 1122.

Initial investigation suggested that the accident occurred due to careless driving of the bus and dumper drivers. passing-out: DIG Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) Ghulam Mehmood Dogar has said modern training can help the police to curb crime and problems.

He said this during a passing-out parade of first batch of Field Craft course of PHP personnel. He added good and healthy training needs professional trainers and productive environment which was given to the recruits. Earlier, active personnel of PHP presented guard of honor to DIG/PHP Ghulam Mehmood Dogar and showed professional skills which they learned during the course. Deputy Commandant PC DIG Dr Inam Waheed, DSP Headquarters Raza Naqvi, DSP Training Riaz Shahid, DSP Operations Zulfiqar Ali and people at large were present. DIG/PHP Ghulam Mehmood Dogar during his address in Farooq Abad Training school said now the roads are safe for commuters. He said: “This country is our motherland, and you are superior from all to be selected to protect it. No administrative post is authorised to embrace martyrdom except you because you are brave and uniformed personnel.”
