TT league begins today
ISLAMABAD: The first ever Pakistan Table Tennis League kicks off on Sunday (today) with the opening ceremony at Jinnah Stadium here.
Following the march past of the competing teams, popular singers including Atif Aslam will perform in front of an expected crowd of more than 30,000.
Talking to ‘The News’ Syed Nadeem Mansoor, chairman selection committee of the Pakistan Table Tennis Federation (PTTF) and general secretary of the Islamabad Table Tennis Association, said eight teams will compete in the inaugural event to be held at the Liaquat Gymnasium.
The teams include Karachi Karare, Lahore Ustads, Islamabad Commander, Faisalabad Shair Dil, Rawal Jugni, Multan Sufian, Peshawar Dilawar and Quetta Defenders.
Nadeem said the idea of the league was taken from the Pakistan Super League that took cricket to new heights.
“We understand that table tennis does not have a big following but we are hopeful that our efforts would generate interest in the game,” he said.
