OKARA: Sadr police on Thursday registered a case against 1,600 tenants, including 200 women, for staging a demonstration against the arrest of their leaders.
The case was registered under Sections 186, 353, 341, 440, 452, 342,148 and 149 of the PPC, 7-ATA, 16-MPO, 6 of Sound System Ordinance and AO 11B.
On Wednesday, tenants under the aegis of the Anjuman-e-Mazareen Punjab reached the District Complex on tractor-trolleys, motorcycles and other vehicles where they staged a demonstration against the arrest of Anjuman-e-Mazareen Punjab (AMP) Renala Khurd president Nadeem Ashraf and Kulyana Estate president Malik Saleem Jhakhar in murder and other cases, which according to them were false cases. They were chanting slogans against the DPO and the government for allegedly implicating them in false cases.
Later, District Coordination Officer Qaisar Saleem held talks with the tenants’ leaders and assured them of looking into the matter.
Meanwhile, the DPO, while talking to newsmen, said that if the 1,600 tenants, who were booked by Sadr police, surrendered themselves, they would be released in 24 hours after investigation on merit. He also made similar offer to those tenants of the state lands, who were booked in old cases.
