A number of college teachers staging a demonstration on Wednesday demanded the government to immediately fulfill around 5,600 vacant teaching posts at public colleges across Punjab.
The demo held outside the Lahore Press Club was organized by the Punjab Professors & Lecturers Association (PPLA) in which the participants carrying banners and placards also chanted slogans.
PPLA President Dr Zahid Sheikh led the demo in which the protestors also demanded the government to revive 75 per cent discount in tax on salaries of college teachers.
They also wanted regularization of 2,200 lecturers recruited on contract basis in 2012 and urged the government to allocate minimum 7 per cent of GDP on education.
A number of commerce stream teachers had also joined the demo and expressed strong concerns over nonpayment of salaries by the Higher Education Department Punjab for the last two months.
