Olympian threatens to take PHF to court
ISLAMABAD: Olympian Khalid Bashir, who was part of the 1994 World Cup winning team, has threatened to take Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) to a court of law if the letter of removing him as associate secretary was not taken back.
In a letter addressed to PHF, former penalty corner specialist Khalid said that he was only doing his duty as an official of PHF. “I was concerned on media reports regarding alleged corruption in PHF and that was the reason I raised my voice during the Congress meeting held in Islamabad on January 4 in Islamabad. Instead of coming out with facts, I was threatened by some officials in front of all Congress members,” he said.
Khalid said he was also concerned about Pakistan’s fall in international ranking and the decline in standard of hockey in the country.
He said it was worrying that Pakistan had been unable to defeat such teams as Oman, which is ranked 32nd. “Japan have beaten us in the tri-nation final. Never before did we lose or play a draw against these teams,” he added. Meanwhile, the 30th executive board meeting of PHF would be held in Islamabad on Thursday (today).
