SBP gain lead despite Jalat’s superb bowling
KARACHI: Rizwan Hussain hammered a solid 93 to enable State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to gain a 29-run lead against Haideri Traders despite some superb bowling from spinner Jalat Khan on the second day of their three-day Group I outing of the Patron’s Trophy Grade-II here at the State Bank of Pakistan Ground on Wednesday.
Rizwan smashed 14 fours in his 173-ball knock to push SBP to 209 before they were all out, having resumed their first innings at 69-1 in response to Haideri Traders’ 180.Umar Waheed made 32. Quetta-born left-arm spinner Jalat captured 8-68. Haideri Traders were 95-4 in the second innings at stumps, 66 runs ahead with six wickets in hand.
In the other outing of this group, here at the UBL Sports Complex, Sajjad Hussain (4-33) and Asad Raza (3-68) bowled well to help K-Electric secure a 95-run lead when after scoring 314 they dismissed Omar Associates for 219.
Usman Khan scored 76 with six fours and one six and Mohtashim Ali chipped in with 65, which featured seven fours. K-Electric were 29 without loss in their second innings at close.Here at the NBP Sports Complex Navy got a 28-run lead when after posting 268 they bowled Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) for 240.
The hall-mark of CAA’s innings was a fine 100 from Haris Khanzada who struck 14 fours in his 230-ball knock. Moazzam Malik and Raza-ul-Hasan claimed three wickets each.Navy were 122-4 in their second innings when bails were drawn. Waseem Ahmed was batting at 46. Spinner Shahzaib Ahmed got all the four wickets that fell.
In a Group B match, at Jinnah Stadium, Sialkot, Candyland were on the brink of a defeat as after being forced to follow-on by Port Qasim Authority (PQA) they reached 255-5 in their second innings. Adil Akram was batting on 98 which included 18 fours. Earlier, in response to PQA’s first innings total of 347-9 declared, Candyland had perished for 102. Discarded international fast bowler Mohammad Talha got 7-38.
At Rana Naved Academy, Sheikhupura, Ahmed Glass were also on the brink of defeat as after being forced to follow-on by Karachi Port Trust (KPT) they were reeling at 174-6 in their second innings at close.Waqas Ali made 50. Fast bowler Adeel Malik got 3-38. In response to KPT’s first innings score of 344-8, Ahmed Glass were folded for 112 with Adeel capturing 6-49.
In a Group C clash, at Diamond Club Ground, Islamabad, PIA were in deep trouble against ZTBL as after being forced to follow-on they were 73-2 in their second innings at close.Earlier, in reply to ZTBL’s first innings total of 321 all out, PIA were skittled out for 148 with Anwar Ali scoring 56. Hamza Nadeem, Usman Ashraf, Bilawal Iqbal and Mohammad Ali got two wickets each.
At Army Cricket Ground, Rawalpindi, CDA set 251 runs to win for Army when after conceding a 17-run lead they were bowled out for 267 in their second innings with hard-hitting batsman Naved Malik smashing 123. Umair Khan got 5-56. Army were 57-2 while chasing.
At Pindi Stadium, Pak Saudi were 164-3 in their second innings against OGDCL after being forced to follow-on. Earlier, in response to OGDCL’s first innings total of 470-3 declared, they were folded for 201 with Imtiaz Aslam scoring 85. Mohammad Faisal and Mohammad Waqar got three wickets each.At Railways Stadium, Lahore, Ghani Glass were about to set a big target for HEC as after gaining a 173-run lead they were 139-5 in their second innings at stumps.
