NAWABSHAH: Citizens are facing grave difficulties due to long delay in the construction of overhead bridge over the Sabzi Mandi Railway Gate.
The foundation stone of the bridge bridge, named after late Haji Hakim Ali Zardari, father of former President Asif Ali Zardari, was laid by MNA Dr Azra Fazal Pechohu. Soon after the construction was started but was stopped after completion of only 25 percent of the work.
Citizens said the city is bifurcated into old city and new city by the railway track. Majority of offices, schools, colleges, hospitals, secretariats of Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, DIG and other government offices are in the new city, therefore, thousands of old city residents have to go daily to the new city after crossing the railway gate, where they have to wait for hours. In addition to wasting hours and hours at the gate, they also face severe tension.
It happened more than once that patients being shifted in ambulances to hospitals in the new city could not reach in time for treatment and succumbed during the long traffic jams around. The protests by citizens against leaving the bridge incomplete brought no results, while the authorities are tightlipped. The citizens have demanded completion of the unfinished construction of the bridge and save them from mental torture.
