Experts stress need for water conservation
With no system in place for water storage and inefficient management, Pakistan has reached to the third position among the world’s most water-stressed countries, stated experts on Thursday, quoting an International Monetary Fund report.
At a seminar held at the Geology department of the Federal Urdu University of Arts and Sciences to mark International Water Day, experts suggested that water use should be divided into two parts – one for cooking and drinking, and the other for domestic and commercial purposes.
Notable speakers included Dr Seema Naz Siddiqui, the chairperson of the Geology department, Professor Dr Mahmood Ahmad from the Lahore University of Management Sciences, Shahana Urooj Kazmi, the rector of the Dadabhoy Institute of Higher Education and Dr Aamir Alamgir from the Institute of Environmental Studies at KU, among others.
Addressing the gathering, Professor Kazmi said clean drinking water is the basic right of every citizen, yet in Pakistan, contaminated water had made a number of Pakistanis sick with dangerous diseases.
