HAFIZABAD: A large number of teachers of Government Higher Secondary School and Government Middle School, Vanike Tarar, staged a demonstration against police for allegedly torturing their colleague Malik Nazar Muhammad.
The demonstration was led by Muttahida Mahaz Asataza chairman Riaz Ahmad Tarar. The protesters were chanting slogans against the Vanike Tarar police. They were also carrying placards and banners. The protesters alleged that the police illegally entered the house of senior teacher Malik Nazar Muhammad and humiliated his female family members. Later, the police took the teacher and his son to Khanpur village where they allegedly tortured them. As a result, teacher Nazar Muhammad was injured seriously and shifted to the DHQ Hospital. The protesters demanded the chief minister look into the matter and take strict action the policemen involved in the incident. They also demanded registration of a case against the accused policemen. When contacted, Vanike Tarar SHO Shahid Gondal denied the allegation of police torture. He, however, said that ASI Rauf, who raided the house, had been suspended while an inquiry was under way.
