293 graduates get degreesat FJMU convocation

LAHORE:The first convocation of the MBBS graduates of Fatima Jinnah Medical University was held in FJMU Auditorium on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Punjab Governor Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana, as chief guest of the convocation.

Khawaja Muhammad Salman Rafique, Minister Specialised Health Care & Medical Education Punjab, Prof Dr Nazimuddin, Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission and Dr Nazir Ahmed, Director General Higher Education Commission Pakistan were the guests of honour.

In this first convocation of FJMU, 293 MBBS graduates were awarded degrees and 18 position-holders got gold medals. The gold medalist MBBS graduates were Dr Muniba Rehman Mustafai, Dr Shumaila Rasheed, Dr Maira Wajahat, Dr Ayesha Najeeb Khan, Dr Parsa Khan, Dr Memoona Tahir, Dr Emaan Fatima, Dr Mehar Faryal Khan, Dr Maleeha Nadeem, Dr Zunjbila Kusar, Dr Hira Mehmood, Dr Ramsha Shafiq, Dr Khadijatul Qubra, Dr Amna Tariq Khawaja, Dr Bachakana Achakzai, Dr Sumbal Tahir, Dr Memoona Tariq, Dr Maham Shahid and Dr Warda Ahmed. The best graduate of this MBBS session was Dr Muniba Rehman Mustafai.

Punjab Governor Malik Rafique Rajwana congratulated the students and advised them that this is the first step of their practical life. This day is the outcome of the prayers of your parents and the efforts of the teachers. Your destination is a specialist doctor. The female doctors cannot continue the use of their medical education in their practical life as they become housewives after getting married. The poor masses of this country need your services, he said.

Prof Khalid Masood Gondal, FJMU Vice-Chancellor thanked the chief guest and the guests of honour and congratulated the newly graduates. He said the students of this institution are 100% lady doctors but in practical field this percentage falls down. The people of the country expect us to continue to serve the ailing humanity. I also expect from the graduates that they will hold the flag of FJMU high by serving the patients. He also said that FJMU would be the one of the best universities of the country with the best faculty.

PU research proposals: A six-day international workshop on research proposal development for young faculty members and MPhil/PhD scholars started at Punjab University’s Institute of Social and Cultural Studies (ISCS).

Trainers from Germany, the US and Pakistan are resource persons of the workshop. Prof Dr Rubeena Zakar, Dr Khalil Ahmed, faculty members and M Phil/PhD scholars from various departments attended the workshop.

On the first day, Dr Mustafa Aksakal from Bielefeld University, Germany, delivered the keynote lecture on comparative analysis, use of quantitative and qualitative research methods. Dr Aksakal apprised the participants of various technicalities using qualitative and quantitative research methods for comparative analysis. He also briefed the participants about engaging in comparisons, particular gain, theoretical approaches, what do researchers compare, methodological implications of comparative analysis, use of comparative analysis in research and applying comparative analysis in research. Later, a question-answer session was also held.
