Every year a number of people in Pakistan die after consuming counterfeit medicines. Manufacturing and selling fake medicines has now become a multi-billion rupee business. The industry has been able to grow owing to the absence of quality-control checks and supervision. It seems as if the authorities have become hostage to the people involved in the business of counterfeit drugs.
The sale of these medicines is not limited to Pakistan alone. The internet has also become a bastion of drug profiteers, who have set up online pages through which they regulate the sale of these medicines. All fake drug markets must be traced and all those involved in this criminal activity should be punished.
