Punjab stay on top of medals table

PESHAWAR: Punjab stayed on top of the medals table with 20 gold medals in the ongoing 4th Inter-Provincial Games here at the Peshawar Sports Complex Monday.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa staged a clean sweep in the bodybuilding and women’s squash categories while Sindh won seven gold in the swimming competition.

Punjab were leading the medals table with 20 gold, 11 silver and five bronze while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were at second with 10 gold medals. Sindh were struggling at third position with seven gold, four silver and five bronze medals.

Sindh won gold medals in the 100m and 200m free styles, 100m and 200m back-stroke, 100m butterfly, 100m, 200m breast strokes, 200m IM, 4X100m free style relay, 4X200m free style and 4X100m medley relay.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa collected all nine gold medals in the weightlifting event. Punjab with five silver and two bronze medals came second while Balochistan with a silver and three bronze medals were placed at third.

In the squash contest, under-19 No 1 player Komal Khan claimed double delight as she defeated Aiman Shahbaz of Punjab in the final 3-1 and later along with Laiba Ijaz won gold medal in the team event.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will face Punjab in the volleyball final today (Tuesday). Punjab crushed KP 2-0 in the tug-of-war final to win gold while KP defeated Punjab in the table tennis final 3-0.Punjab with four gold and three silver medals got first position in the wrestling event. In the hockey competition, KP qualified for the final after defeating Balochistan 5-1.
