Eight blast victims discharged

LAHORE: Eight people who were injured in Raiwind bomb blast have been discharged from Lahore General Hospital after recovery while the remaining six injured victims are stable and would be discharged very soon.

This was said by Prof Ghiyas un Nabi Tayyab, principal, Post Graduate Medical Institute and Lahore General Hospital while talking to the media on Sunday, according to a press release. The principal along with LGH MS Dr Mahmood Salahud Din and other senior doctors inquired after the injured and reviewed the medical facilities being provided to them.

He said all possible facilities and resources were utilised to save the lives of the injured. PU workshop on drought: Punjab University (PU) in collaboration with the RIKEN Centre for Sustainable Resource Science, Japan, organised an international research workshop on “Drought Stresses: Challenges for Agriculture and Mitigation Strategies” at the Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB).

Faculty of Life Sciences Dean Prof Dr Muhammad Naeem Khan in his inaugural address to the workshop urged the Pakistani agriculture scientists to focus development of drought-resistant agriculture varieties like cotton, rice, wheat and vegetable to mitigate the water shortage and climatic change in the country.

He appreciated the role of CEMB as being the most productive centre of the Faculty of Life Sciences. Around 100 participants attended the workshop while eminent Japanese plant scientist Prof Dr Motoaki Seki, team leader, Plant Genomics Network Research, RIKEN Centre for Sustainable Resource Science and Dr Khurram Bashir joined the workshop as international speakers.

Saleem Raza, joint secretary, Food Agriculture and Research Ministry and Dr Ghazanfar Ali Khan, additional secretary, Punjab Agriculture Department also participated in the intergovernmental research project development workshop. Prof Dr Tayyab Husnain, director, CEMB, briefed the participants on the research activities done at CEMB. Dr Motoaki Seki gave a lecture on research done at RIKEN, Japan.
