Bail rejected : Nawaz shoe attackers’ bail pleas dismissed after terrorclause added to FIR
LAHORE: A judicial magistrate of cantonment courts on Saturday dismissed bail petitions of three accused of hurling a shoe at ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at a ceremony in Jamia Naeemia, Garhi Shahu, after the police informed him the Anti-Terrorism Act had been included in the FIR.
As the magistrate took up the petitions, an investigating officer presented the record of the case and stated that section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997, had been added to the FIR during the investigation.
He said after the addition, the magisterial court had no jurisdiction to hear the bail petitions.
The counsel of the petitioners also stated that after the addition of the new provision, the magistrate lacked jurisdiction to hear the matter and asked the court to dispose of the petitions.
The magistrate dismissed the bail petitions for lack of jurisdiction and asked the counsel to approach anti-terrorism court.
