8,000 cops to perform duties for PSL matches

LAHORE : Lahore Police have devised a comprehensive traffic plan and foolproof security strategy for two playoffs of PSL to be held on March 21 and 22 in the provincial metropolis.

CCPO Amin Wains, addressing a press conference at Police Lines on Saturday, said 2,000 traffic wardens, 56 lady traffic wardens and 97 senior traffic wardens would maintain the flow of traffic in the City under the supervision of 22 DSPs and 7 SPs. Moreover, 18,000 cops of Lahore Police, four DPOs of other districts and divisional SPs would provide security to the players and spectators. CTO Rai Ijaz directed traffic wardens to stay vigilant against suspected persons and things. Pak Army and Rangers would also fully support Lahore Police throughout the sports gala.

deportees: Over 70 Pakistanis were deported from Gulf countries on charges of illegal travelling.

According to FIA officials, 50 passengers arrived from Muscat at Lahore airport on Saturday. They said the passengers had travelled to the UAE from different airports in different years and went to Muscat via land route in connivance with agents. They were deported back on emergency passports. Over 20 passengers arrived through another flight from Muscat at Lahore airport. The FIA officials said the passengers had illegally travelled to Muscat via sea route. In another incidents, two passengers, Risa Horikawa (Japan national) and Lucas Huang Kaiquan (Singapore national), arrived at Lahore airport but were deported after they failed to produce required papers. In another case, Waheeda Kausar was deported from Italy with a fake visa sticker.

electrocuted: A man was electrocuted while working on an electricity pole in the Gulberg area on Saturday.

The victim identified as Umar was doing cable work after climbing the electricity pole when he suffered a severe electric shock, resulting in his death.

Martyred cops: Inspector General of Police, Punjab, Arif Nawaz Khan has said the welfare of the bereaved familites of the martyrs of Raiwind blast would be taken care of well.

He said this during his meeting with the family of martyred Sub-Inspector Manzoor Ahmad. The IG also offered Fateha for the departed soul. He met with offspring of the martyred and he assured that being the chief of welfare of Punjab Police would bear their all educational expenses. He said, "The family of martyred Manzoor Ahmed is our own family, therefore, lf they face any trouble with respect to welfare, the door of my office will remain open for them 24 hours." He said Manzoor with his companions had set an example of dutifulness and bravery. The police force is proud of their sacrifice, he added. Punjab Police will soon arrest the mastermind and the facilitators of Raiwind blast, the IG said.

Safe City: A delegation from Balochistan visited Punjab Safe Cities Authority Headquarters in connection with setting up Quetta Safe City Authority. The delegation comprised Balochistan IT secretary, Quetta Safe City project director and senior police officers.

The Punjab Safe Cities Authority chief operating officer briefed the delegates on several aspects of the project. He assured them the PSCA would extend cooperation in setting up Quetta Safe City Project. He informed that the delegations from Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had already visited the PSCA for guidance on etablishment of such projects in those provinces.
