A trout in the milk?
The chaos that was followed by the rigging claims during the 2013 general elections was not settled when the allegations of horse-trading during the Senate elections surfaced. Amid all political parties blaming each other for being hand in glove in such practices, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) took notice of the matter by calling all those who accused others of horse-trading to its office on March 14.
It now rests with politicians to provide sufficient and appropriate evidence to prove that their allegations are true. The point is that such activities cannot be traced easily. No one will come forward and confess that he or she was involved in this activity. Henry David Thoreau, an American poet and philosopher, said the following about proof: “some circumstantial evidence is very strong, as when you find a trout in the milk”. It now rests with the ECP to probe deeply into the matter and find out the truth.

If the now-viral allegations of horse-trading are proved to be true, then people will realise that money is more powerful than a party’s ideologies and people’s votes.
Whoever is involved in this activity should show respect towards state institutions. In order to strengthen our country, we need to do away with such practices.
