KARACHI: A bomb blast occurred in a farm near the Bawaan Shah Shrine in Usman Goth, Malir on Saturday. Fortunately no one was hurt.

According to Malir police station SHO Arz Muhammad, an awan bomb, a type of locally produced improvised explosive device detonated via remote control, which had been hidden in a farm near the shrine, exploded, causing panic in the area. He added that a heavy contingent of Malir police and Rangers reached the site and cordoned it off. The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was called in to collect evidence for examination.

District Malir SPP Adeel Hussain Chandio said no loss of life or injury was reported in the explosion. He added that the farm where the bomb exploded was located close to the residence of a notorious Lyari Gang War kingpin in Malir named Sohail Dada. Chandio added a BDS team swept the area to check for more explosives but did not find any. The SSP speculated that criminals involved in the gang war might have buried their weapons and explosives in the area and the awan bomb which went off might be one of those arms.
