Uplift of sports infrastructure top priority: governor

PESHAWAR: Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra on Wednesday said that developing sports infrastructure in tribal areas was a top priority.

“The government has taken various steps to improve existing sports infrastructure in tribal areas to involve the youth in healthy and productive activities,” he said at a meeting with the newly elected office-bearers of Sports Writers Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (SWA KP).

The delegation headed by President SWA KP Jehanzeb Siddique included its general secretary Asim Sheeraz, senior sports journalist Ijaz Ahmad and member executive committee Azmatullah met the governor.

Zafar Jhagra lauded the efforts and services of sports journalist for promotion of games in KP and tribal areas and portraying the soft image of the province and the country to the international community.

He underlined various steps being taken for the welfare of tribal youth and people including clean drinking water schemes, health and education facilities.

The governor said there was no dearth of talent in tribal areas and with provision of necessary facilities the talented youth would get proper opportunities to represent their areas at the national and the country at the international level sports events.

He said the federal government was committed to introduce reforms as per the aspirations of tribespeople.

“Normalcy has returned to tribal

areas and the time is right to kick start sports activities there to involve the

youth in healthy activities but to also prevent them going into wrong hands,” Zafar Jhagra said.
