The increasing global warming and a high frequency of heatwaves have threatened the natural balance of environment, but the plantation of trees can save the world from these risks, said Karachi University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ajmal Khan.
He was expressing his views while inaugurating a plantation campaign at the university’s campus. The ceremony was o attended by deans of faculties, students and a large number of teachers and students.
Under the campaign, more than 2,500 plants will be planted on the campus. The vice chancellor said the natural environment could be protected if all citizens of Pakistan participated in the plantation season. Natural calamities, including tropical cyclones, tornadoes, floods and droughts combining with global warming, have become a serious threat to the South Asian countries.
He was of the view that trees could reduce the impact of heatwaves. Climate changes did not come accidently, and, “we, the human beings are much responsible for such changes”. He said the plantation of trees was the only way to save the world from the danger of global warming. He stressed that the people must promote the culture of tree plantation since it played a major role in controlling heatwaves.
The vice chancellor and the deans planted different trees to inaugurate the campaign. Dr Ajmal Khan also inaugurated cleanliness campaign at the varsity and visited departments.
