GCU signs MoU with Tehran University
LAHORE: Government College University (GCU) Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with University of Tehran, Iran for academic and research cooperation in Urdu literature.
Government College University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah and University of Tehran Department of Urdu literature Chairperson Dr Muhammad Kiou Marsi signed the accord. GCU Dean Faculty of Languages Prof Dr Iqbal Shahid, Urdu Department Chairperson Dr Khalid Sanjrani and other officials were also present on the occasion.
According to the accord, both the universities agreed to launch research support programmes where they would exchange and host PhD and MPhil students from both the universities and provide them necessary training and support. The universities also agreed to exchange faculty members for short periods.
Prof Hassan Amir Shah said higher education and research had become advanced and multidisciplinary and it was not possible for a single university to have all the expertise, facilities and research material.
He said GCU was strengthening research and academic ties with national and international varsities. Meanwhile, a ghazal and folk night was held at GCU, Quaid e Azam Hostel. Vocalists and musicians from the university’s Nazir Ahmed Music Society (NAMS) enthralled the students with their melodious voice and folk music.
The hostel superintendent Dr Nouman Sawar Qureshi said NAMS produced galaxy of stars for Pakistan. He said the objective the musical evening was to provide an in-house entertainment opportunity to boarders before their examinations.
