A court on Friday handed down a death sentence to a man for killing his aunt for refusing his advances in 2010.
Announcing the judgment, Additional District and Sessions (South) Judge Shazia Asif, who has been hearing the case against Nasir Khan, noted that the state attorney had successfully proved the murder charges.
The court observed that it was fair to convict and hand down a death sentence to Khan who had killed an innocent woman Rasheeda, the wife of his paternal uncle Shaukat Zaman. Khan, 40, had stabbed Rasheeda, who was 25-years-old at the time, to death after he sexually harassed her while her husband was not at home and she refused his advances. He had then fled to Abbottabad, but police later arrested him and shifted him to Karachi for a trial.
The court has also imposed a Rs100,000 fine on the convict. Incidentally, as the court announced its verdict, Khan and his uncle Zaman, who is the complainant in the case, openly wept – Khan on the sentence and the uncle in sympathy for his nephew. Zaman said that even though he was his nephew, he had committed great a sin by killing his aunt.
