DUBAI: Australia’s five-match unbeaten run through the Trans-Tasman tri-series, culminating in the win at Eden Park on Wednesday saw them jump to join Pakistan at the top of the T20I rankings.
Although both sides are on 126 points, when decimal calculations are taken into account, Pakistan are on 125.84, beating Australia by 0.19 points, as confirmed in the latest rankings announced by the ICC. Australia’s rise in the rankings comes at the expense of their lacklustre opponents, New Zealand, who continue their downward slide which started against Pakistan. Placed second before the start of series with 123 points, they’ve ended up losing seven points and two positions. England, the third party, have lost five points to slip from the fourth to the sixth position and end up with 114 points. Elsewhere, Sri Lanka gained 3 points, thanks to their 2-0 sweep against Bangladesh, who in turn are down four points to 72, but manage to hold on to their tenth spot.
