Islamabad: A one-day workshop titled ‘Prime Minister’s Green Pakistan Programme and our Social Responsibilities’ was organised by National Council of Social Welfare (NCSW), says a press release.
NCSW Chairman Dr. Nadeem Shafiq Malik chaired the seminar while Romeena Aalam Khursheed, Parliamentary Secretary for Climate Change, was the chief guest. Representative of Civil Society, NGOs, students, and officials of CAD&D attended the workshop.
NCSW chairman said that Green Pakistan Programme is a remarkable initiative of Present Government to cope the emerging threats of Climate Change. More than 100 million saplings will be planted over the next five years all over the country for the sake of a healthy environment and sustainable environment for our succeeding generations. As a generalised rule, 25 % of a country’s own area should consist of forest cover. This policy will improve the plight of climate and also improve forestry and wildlife sectors.
The Ministry of Climate Change has prepared a roadmap for the assessment of forest resource depletion, use of modern technology and development of immediate and long term forest rescue expansion plans. A viable mechanism had been hammered out tp ensure maximum benefits of the people and sustainable environment. We have to discourage the cutting down of trees seeking our social responsibilities.
