Since the Senate elections are round the corner, political bargains seem to be at their peak, with every party looking forward to ‘buy’ as many Senate votes as possible to bring a maximum number of its members into the Upper House. The Pakistani people have high expectations from parliamentarians. But all their dreams and hopes are shattered when they see such practices by the parties with tall claims of reforms.
Just to be fair and to get the legitimate share in the Senate, why can’t we go for a proportionate representation formula where every party gets a pre-calculated count of seats in the Senate based on their national and provincial assembly’s strength? Such a formula can eradicate the menace of horse trading.
