Pesco to cut power to govt depts

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) has decided to cut power supply to around 12 federal and provincial government departments against which over Rs19 billion of the power bills are outstanding.

A press lease of the Pesco said on Tuesday that the company would disconnect power supply to the defaulters including federal and provincial government departments, autonomous bodies, local government entities who have failed to pay their outstanding dues.

It said an amount Rs19.85 billion were outstanding against these federal and provincial departments.

The defaulting departments include Electricity Department AJK (Kashmir), which is alone defaulting on Rs18.72 billion, Fata Development Corporation, (Rs315.062 million), Ministry of State and Frontier Regions (SAFRON), Rs67.656 million, Frontier Constabulary (Rs31.874 million), Commissioner Afghan Refugees, (Rs6.775 million), Chief Engineer Water North (Rs4.865 million), National Highway Authority, (Rs4.723 million) Pakistan Post Office (Rs3.905 million), Town Municipal Administration (TMA) Town-1 Peshawar (Tube Well), Rs61.639 million, Police Department, (Rs42.262 million), Deputy District Officer WS&S Haripur, (Rs36.926 million and TMA Town-1 Peshawar has to pay Rs2.091 million bills for street lights.

The Pesco also directed the defaulter government departments to pay outstanding arrears immediately, failing which their power supply would be disconnected without any further notice.
