Qualifier Chou upsets seventh seed
ISLAMABAD: Qualifier Wen-Yi Chou of Chinese Taipei upset 7th seed Nishad Kalluri of India in straight sets in the first round of the Syed Tajammul Abbas ITF Pakistan World Junior Ranking Tennis Championships here at the Syed Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex on Monday.
Wen-Yi Chou won 6-2, 6-2 to move into the second round.All other seeded players won their respective matches. Third seed Arthav Neema (India) struggled hard to win his match against Mathew Yee (Hong Kong) in a well-contested three sets match. Both players displayed quality tennis.
Rattanan Siritaworchar (Thailand) beat Lui Cheng Hsuni (Chinese Taipei) in another good three-set match 4-6, 7-5, 6-0.Upcoming Pakistani player Muhammad Shoaib recorded his victory against Ahmed Kamil 6-0, 4-6, 6-1 while Ahmed Asjad Qureshi eliminated Cameron Austin Chang of USA in a thrilling and entertaining three-set match 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. The match lasted for two hours.
Srujana Payarala of India also displayed an excellent tennis and beat Sevval Ozseker (Turkey) without any resistance 6-0, 6-1. Aysegul Mert (Turkey) beat Zoha Asim (Pakistan) 6-0, 6-1 to qualify for the quarter-finals.
Earlier, Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) President Saleem Saifullah Khan inaugurated the championship. Islamabad Tennis Association President Tariq Mehmood Murtaza and a large number of tennis fans and PTF officials were also present on the occasion.
