KP govt presents seat adjustment formula for Senate election
PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakh-tunkhwa (KP) government, while offering five seats of Senate to Opposition, has presented adjustment formula of Senate seats on Monday in order to discourage horse trading and solve seats’ issue through consultation and to elect new senators unopposed.
According to the formula, prepared by KP Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak, the PTI will get six out of 11 seats of Senate which comprise 4 general, one technocrat, one woman seat while the opposition will get five seats comprising 3 general, one technocrat and one woman seat.
PTI Chairman Imran Khan has given green signal to Pervaiz Khattak by supporting his proposal of electing senators unopposed. After that Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and Speaker Khyber Pakht-unkhwa Asad Qaisar held meetings with KP Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra and Opposition Leader Maulana Lutful Rehman and offered them seats for the Senate elections which will be held on March 3, 2018.
They also asked them to chalk out strategy to halt possible horse trading and solve the issue through mutual understanding and consultation to elect senators unopposed.
KP Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra and opposition leader in the KP Assembly welcomed the formula of seat adjustment of Senate while consultation will be held with ANP, PPP, QWP and JI in this regard.
