BAHAWALPUR: The Punjab government has launched Rs5 billion programme which is aimed at eradicating child labour. Addressing a seminar here on Monday, Additional Secretary Dr Sohail Shehzad said that Punjab chief minister attached special significance to completely wiping out the scourge of child labour which has deprived the children of formal education and professional skills. It was told that the government of Punjab has launched Rs180 million project in Layyah, Jhang, Chakwal and Jhelum districts. Similarly, another Rs123 million project is also underway in Kasur and Lahore which will impart education, skills and provide soft loans to the brick kilns’ labourers. Another Rs190 million project is under progress in Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Sargodha and Gujrat. During the seminar, a detailed briefing was held regarding education supplies, monitoring check list and process of payment to partner schools.
