AIOU sets up alumni’s social network
Islamabad: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has established Alumni Association for promoting long-term cooperative relationship and cultivating a culture of engagement. It will also provide a platform to the thousands of University’s ex-students for sharing their success stories and arranging re-union.
The Association was formally came into being with the launching of a Alumni’s website and setting up its office on the initiative of the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui who wished that their graduates should be a source of strength for promoting the University’s image and achieving its educational goals.
The website launching ceremony held here was participated by a large number of the University’s current and passed-out students. Through the website (alumni@aiou.edu.pk), the inspiring students could register themselves for membership to avail certain facilities. While introducing the objectives of the Association, Dr. Nasir Mahmood, Dean Education said that the AIOU feels proud of having biggest number of their alumni home and abroad who are serving the society in different capacity.
The office of the Alumni will serve as a bridge to establish relationship among the University and the Alumni. Through the website, the Association's members will be updated about the available opportunities and life at AIOU. As per the vision of the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Nasir further said that the graduates will be encouraged to support their university through active participation and contribution for providing volunteer services.
Our correspondent adds: The city mayor Sardar Naseem has assured to resolve all public issues like gas and water shortage, unscheduled loadshedding, sewerage problems, ever-increasing encroachments and traffic problems on priority, he stated this while addressing a meeting with vice chairmen here on Monday.
The vice chairmen during the meeting have strongly complained of water shortage, absence of natural gas, unscheduled loadshedding, bad sewerage system, ever-increasing encroachments and traffic issues. They have also complained of non-availability of government funds that have been given to UC Nazims only.
The mayor assured to resolve the said issues one-by-one, he also told that he was adopting a three-point agenda to remove encroachments, resolve traffic mess and launch development projects in the city first. He said that we were removing encroachment from Raja Bazaar, City Saddar Road, Bara Bazaar, Trunk Bazaar, Sadiqabad Road and several other roads to ease traffic flow.
He also said that gas pressure issue has been resolved in majority of areas as SNGPL laid down new pipelines of 10 inch. We are trying to boost up gas pressure in tail-end localities as well, he assured. Under the new local government system, the mayor has the authority to run the affairs of union councils.
