LEAs arrest three street criminals in raids

Two suspects, including an activist of a political party, were arrested from the city on Monday during targeted operations carried out by the Sindh Rangers, while a member of a gang of robbers was arrested by police.

According to a spokesperson for the paramilitary force, Rangers soldiers conducted an intelligence-based raid and arrested Shoaib, who belongs to Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London, and has been involved in robberies, street crimes and other offences.

The spokesperson further said that Shahzeb alias Sonu had also been arrested. He is said to be involved in motorbike theft and other street crimes. Weapons and stolen items were recovered from the two accused, who were later handed over to the police for further legal proceedings.

Notorious robber held

Meanwhile, the District Central police also claimed to have arrested a notorious criminal believed to be running a gang involved in a number of shop robberies.

According to police, for the past few months several cases had been registered of shops being broken into and looted in a famous market of Karachi. The officials said that the IGP then directed the police to catch these criminals.

The officials added robbers using the same modus operandi had struck a medical store within the limits of Samanabad police on February 18 and made away with cash and a pistol.

While investigating, police conducted a raid in a Samanabad locality and managed to arrest Hayatullah Asak Zai after a brief struggle with him. The accused belongs to a gang and is an Afghan national, said police, adding that looted items were recovered from him.

During interrogation, the accused disclosed the names of his associates – Gulaab, Asadullah and Shahabuddin. He also reportedly confessed to committing a similar crime with his partners in Ranchor Lane where they broke the locks of a spare parts shop and made away with suction pumps. Zai also confessed to robberies in Nazimabad and Liaquatabad.
