Sports school to be established

LAHORE: A meeting chaired by Punjab Minister for School Education Rana Mashood Ahmad Khan discussed establishment of a sports school in the province.

The meeting decided the sports department in collaboration with the schools department would setup the sports school at Gaddafi Stadium. The schools education department will help in fulfilling formalities of the school and the students will be taught different sports activities for helping them to become the best player.

Rana Mashood said sports talent would be identified through this school. Female students will get equal benefit from this facility, he added. Secretary Sports Amir Jan and officers from sports and schools education department attended the meeting.

PU students excel: Punjab University (PU) students participated in various competitions organised by different institutions and got prominent positions. According to a press release, in Inter-Punjab debate competition organised by a private group of colleges, Ismail Sherwani and Yasir Waseem of PU got first positions and team trophy as well in English (serious) and Urdu (humorous) debate respectively while Shabahat Qamar got first position in Urdu (serious) debate.

In All Pakistan Waleed Iqbal bilingual declamations contest 2018 organised by a private university Rameesha Khan got first position in English (serious) debate while in quiz competition organised by CA Pakistan students including Atif Ali, Ahmad Ejaz and Shafia Inaam got second position. Similarly, in All Pakistan Inter-Collegiate competitions 2018 organised by Govt Postgraduate College Jhang students including Hafiz Huzaifa-tul-Razzam got first position in qiraat competition, Zohaib Nasir and Muhammad Waqar in English debate got second and consolation prize respectively, Ali Behzad got first position in national songs, Maisam Abbas and Muhammad Raza got first position in Urdu (Ghazal and Nazam) respectively, Muhammad Haseeb got second position in Arifana Kalam.

In punjab takra Saeed Javed and Mubashir Talish clinched first and third position respectively while in Punjabi poetry Mubashir Talish and Saeed Javed obtained first and second positions respectively.

Punjab University team declared overall champions and also clinched team trophies in English debate, poetry, Punjabi takra and Punjabi poetry competitions.

Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Zakria Zakir congratulated the students on their achievements. Technical institute: National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) Executive Director Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema Visited Government Technical Training Institute Mughalpura on Friday.

According to a press release, he was accompanied by Punjab TEVTA Chief Operating Officer Dr Nasir Iqbal Malik and GIZ officers. They visited workshops of the institute. Zulfiqar Cheema said the institute would be upgraded to Centre of Excellence after necessary arrangements. The centre will have state of the art technical workshops which would enhance the level of training. He said students would be trained on heavy machinery like bulldozers, excavators, graders, and cranes at this institute.
