KARACHI: As many as seven players signed up for the qualifying draw of Syed Tajammul Abbas ITF Pakistan World Junior Ranking Tennis Championships which is being held after a gap of nine years at S Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex, Islamabad.
The draw was taken out after the sign-up deadline at 6:00pm by ITF Referee Muhammad Arif Qureshi on Friday.According to the qualifying draw of boys’ singles, Huzaifa Abdul Rehman of Pakistan is the top seed having a bye in the first round while second seed Wen-Yi Chou of Chinese Taipei will face Ahmar Saeed of Pakistan.
Subhan Bin Salik will play against Hsuni-Lui Cheng of Taipei and the last match has Wei-chen Cheng against Ahmed Sameer of Pakistan.The Tournament Committee awarded two wild cards of the main draw to Hong Kong and Indian players because of their late flight schedule.
On Friday, Chinese Taipei players reached Islamabad and had two practice sessions in the morning and afternoon. As many as 22 players have been accepted into the main draw (as per ITF Ranking list) which will start from February 19.
The qualifying matches will start at 10:00am from Saturday at S Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex. “Other foreign players of the main draw will reach Islamabad on Sunday as per their flight schedules,” stated Head of Media Hamid-ul-Haq.
