NOWSHERA: Advisor to the prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) provincial president Amir Muqam on Thursday said the victory of the party’s candidate in the by-poll on constituency NA-154, Lodhran, was an eye opener for the political opponents.

Talking to reporters at the hujra of PML-N district general secretary Mushitur Rehman here, he asked the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan to read writing on the wall.

“The baseless allegations and propaganda against the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif failed to make any impact on the results of the elections,” he added.

“The people of Lodhran have given their verdict in favour of Nawaz Sharif. The people responded to allegations against Nawaz Sharif by electing the PML-N candidate by a huge margin in the by-election,” he said.

“Imran Khan, Jehangir Tareen and other leaders of PTI would now have understood that people cannot be hoodwinked through hollow slogans,” he went on to say.

Amir Muqam said the gang of three, PTI chief Imran Khan, Pakistan People’s Party president Asif Ali Zardari and chief of Pakistan Awami Tehreek Tahirul Qadri, tried to mislead the people by coming together to run a campaign against the federal government but failed to attract the people.

“The people rejected any conspiracy against the federal government by not showing up in the public meeting of the three parties in Lahore,” he added.

He said Imran Khan cursed the Parliament but continued withdrawing salary from the same Parliament, adding he (Imran Khan) had come to National Assembly just four times in the last four and half years.

The PML-N leader said that Imran Khan had received Rs7.5 million on account of salary from the National Assembly but cursing the same, which was deplorable.

He asked the parliamentarians to protest against Imran Khan for cursing the Parliament.

Amir Muqam said the politics of Imran Khan revolved around allegations and abuses, adding the people were mature and knew the double standards of Imran Khan.

The PML-N provincial chief said the PTI chief made hue and cry over a child abuse case in Kasur town in Punjab but kept a mum over the similar incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said that Imran Khan did not bother to visit or offer sympathy to the families of the sexually abused children in Mardan and Nowshera districts.

Amir Muqam said the accused in the murder of a medical student Asma Rani in Kohat was still at large.

He alleged that Jehangir Tareen had earned billions in minerals contracts in Swat and Buner districts.

Criticising the PTI-led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, he said that its ministers were involved in illegal mining in Nowshera, Swat and Buner districts which had caused huge losses to the government treasure.

He said Chief Minister Pervez Khattak used to dance on containers in the PTI’s sit-in and rallies and did nothing for the people of the province.

The PML-N leader said that PTI chief Imran Khan opposed dynastic politics but Pervez Khattak family members were elected to Parliament on PTI’s ticket and given key responsibilities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He alleged that illegal appointment had been made to the Qazi Hussain Ahmad Medical Complex in Nowshera.

Amir Muqam said the PML-N had always served the people. He hoped the party would win the next general elections on the basis of its performance.
