Shahrukh Jatoi shifted to JPMC for cardiac evaluation: jail authorities

KARACHI: Death row convict Shahrukh Jatoi has been shifted to Jinah Postgraduate Medical Centre for cardiac evaluation on the advice of medical officer of the prison, the superintendent district Malir prison stated in his report filed with the IG Prisons.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar had taken notice over the reported shifting of the Shahzaib Khan's convicted killer Shahrukh Jatoi from prison to hospital. The Chief Justice had called a report from the IG Sindh and IG Prisons on the issue.

The Superintendent Malir Prison submitted that Shahrukh Jatoi was referred to the prison hospital on February 7 with complaint of severe chest pain where the medical officer examined him and advised to refer the prisoner to the JPMC for cardiac evaluation. The Medical officer in his report submitted that Jatoi was brought to the jail hospital with complaints of sever chest pain, nausea, vomiting and semi unconsciousness and on examination his blood pressure was found to be 70/50 and pulse 50 beats per minutes. He said after providing first aid the prisoner was referred to JPMC for cardiac evaluation where the prisoner was admitted in the special ward room No. 5. He submitted that the executive director of JPMC was requested to intimate the period required for hospitalization of the prisoner and his health condition.

It is pertinent to mention that Sindh High Court’s special bench will hear Shahzaib Khan’s murder case against Shahrukh Jatoi and other co-accused following Supreme Court’s order that set aside the previous judgment of the SHC in which the court had struck down the conviction awarded by the anti terrorism court and remanded back the case to Sessions court for denovo trial.
