Isolated hailstorm brings back winter chill

LAHORE: The city received scattered rain with mild hailstorm here on Monday while Met office predicted more rain during the next 24 hours.

The rain started at early hours of Monday and continued till evening in different spans. Some city localities witnessed a brief and mild hailstorm around noon. Met officials said westerly wave is still affecting upper parts of the country and likely to persist during next 24 hours.

Met officials predicted more rain-thunderstorm (with snowfall over the hills) at isolated places in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Mardan divisions, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Cold and dry weather is expected elsewhere in the country.

Rainfall was also recorded at other cities including KP: Malamjabba 23, Bannu 19, Dir 14, DI Khan 11, Peshawar (A/P10, City 06), Kohat 10,Cherat, Lower Dir, Mirkhani 08, Parachinar, Saidu Sharif 07, Pattan 06, Kalam 04, Drosh, Balakot 03, Chitral 02, Kakul 01. Kashmir: Rawalakot 20, Garidupatta, Kotli 08, Muzaffarabad 04, Punjab: Sialkot( A/P17, City 16), Jhelum, Mangla 15, layyah14, Bhakkar 12, Islamabad (Z.P 10), Rawalpindi (Chaklala 09, Shamsabad 08), Gujrat, Kamra 09, Gujranwala 07, Murree, Joharabad, Kasur 06, Lahore (Punjab University 10, A/P 07, PBO 06),Chakwal, Kot Addu, MB Din 05, Sargodha (A/P 05, City 02), Faisalabad, Bahawalnagar, Sahiwal, Shorkot 04, Noorpur Thal, Multan 03, Bahawalpur (city 02, A/P trace), Jhang, TT Singh 01, Balochistan: Zhob 16, Kalat 08, Quetta (PBO 04, SM 02), Lasbella 03 Barkhan 02. Sindh: Larkana 01, Snowfall (inch): Malamjabba 11, Murree, Ziarat 03, Kalam 02, Rawalakot 01.

Monday’s lowest minimum temperature was recorded at Skardu and Parachinar where mercury dropped down to -05°C while in Lahore maximum temperature dropped down to 17°C while minimum was 9.2°C.
