PITB launches call data record system
LAHORE: The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) in collaboration with Punjab Police and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has automated the process of call data record (CDR) based analysis for major crimes. The system was operational in the Punjab Province and has so far completed 87,267 analysis reports.
Founding Vice-Chancellor Information Technology University (ITU) and PITB Chairman Dr Umar Saif said this while chairing a meeting here on Thursday. He said the implementation of automated CDR had improved the situation of law enforcement and helped in crime monitoring across the province.
The meeting was informed that under the automated system 116 million CDRs had been uploaded, 12,677 FIRs analysed and 1,439 cases closed. The system automatically identifies suspects based on suspicious calling patterns and activities (e.g. multiple SIMs used in one IMEI or receiving calls from a foreign country). The system provides a complete profile of suspect, fetching data from all system integrated at the backend. The police have traced numerous suspects using this software. This was previously done manually in excel files, making it time-consuming process prone to errors.
