The Maritime Security Agency (MSA) on Thursday seized eight Indian fishing boats and handed over their 45 crew members to the Docks police for interrogation.
The MSA maintained that the boats had been seized for fishing illegally in Pakistani waters as they were found approximately 300 kilometers inside the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Pakistan.
Upon reaching Karachi, the arrested fishermen were handed over to the Docks police and legal formalities, including the registration of an FIR, were underway.
Earlier in February, Pakistani authorities released 172 Indian fishermen being held at the Malir jail as a gesture of good will.
Their release had coincided with a cricket match between the two countries of this year’s World Cup being held in Australia.
According to Malir Jail officials, 349 Indian fishermen were still in custody.
The released fishermen travelled to Lahore by train from where they were handed over to the Indian authorities at the Wagah Border.
