BANNU: The government employees belonging to North Waziristan Thursday staged a protest to demand release of withheld salaries.
The protesters gathered outside the office of assistant political agent in Ahmad Khan Chowk after passing through various routes and bazaars.Later, they gathered outside the Bannu Press Club and staged the protest.
Speaking on the occasion, Ihsan Wali, Aziz Dawar and others said the agency account officer had withheld the salaries of employees of various government departments. They said that on the one hand the tribespeople and their families were facing hardships due to displacement from their settlements and on the other the administration had stopped paying their salaries.
They alleged that the officer was demanding bribes from them for the release of the salaries. They demanded Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan and political administration to take action against the corrupt officials or else they would launch a protest campaign.
