PU thrash ICU in varsity football
PESHAWAR: University of Central Punjab (UCP) Thursday crushed strong Leeds University 2-0 to book a place in the semi-final of the All-Pakistan Inter-University Men’s Football Championship here Thursday.
Punjab University, University of Sargodha and Sarhad University of Science and Information Technology also qualified for the knockout stage of the championship.Though Leeds secured a penalty corner in the 7th minute but striker Munawar missed the target and also the opportunity to take lead in the match. UCP dominated the game and scored goals in the 21st and 66th minutes. Right winger Rizwan and center striker Bilal Yousaf on the field attempt scored one goal each and led their team into the semi-finals.
In the second quarter-final, University of Punjab (PU) recorded 5-1 victory against Islamia College University (ICU), Peshawar.PU conceded the goal after the very start of the match when Islamia College striker Irfan netted a fine goal through a field attempt in the 4th minute. But PU levelled the tally as Muhammad Shaukat put the ball into the goal post in the 13th minute. The first half ended at 1-1.
However, PU dominated the second half and scored four more goals to win the match 5-1. Nouman hit a hat-trick while Babar and Inayat scored one goal each for PU.University of Sargodha will face PU in the first while UCP will take on Sarhad University in the second semi-final.
