According to the Election Laws 1975, the Senate elections are to be conducted as per proportional representation through single transferable vote.
The idea is that any excess vote over and above the required quota for the success of a candidate would be further transferred to second or third priorities of the voter till preferences are exhausted. This means that a simple ‘show of hands’ once would never complete the process of the Senate election. The demand itself is absurd. It is not going to work at all. If, however, all political parties agree to a methodology of declared preferences only then is there some hope of a 90 percent transparent Senate election without horse-trading.
