Model football league to be organised in Karachi
ISLAMABAD: The Classic Football League (CFL) Season I will be staged this year (most likely in August) in Karachi, for which country’s top players falling in “Platinum Category” have confirmed their participation.
This category comprises only those players who have represented Pakistan at international level. This franchise model league will see the young, enthusiastic quality football players from all over the country representing their teams named after the prominent regions of Pakistan.
CFL Chairman Haider Ali Daud Khan said that CFL will cater the requirements of a modern football league. “The CFL aims at the promotion of football at grassroots level and development of players (technically and financially). At the same time, it would provide a perfect branding opportunity to its corporate stakeholders,” Haider said.
CFL Director Shahid Khokhar revealed the details of the players’ pool development process. “The players are classified into four categories that are Platinum, Diamond, Gold and Emerging.
“Platinum category will comprise only the players who have represented Pakistan at the international level and they will be included in the pool directly while the players for the remaining categories will be chosen through a well propagated and transparent selection process to be carried out nationwide,” Shahid told.
Pakistan national football team captain and a renowned player Muhammad Ahmed expressed happiness over initiating the league. “I am very happy to learn that a franchise-based model league is being launched in Pakistan,” Ahmed said.
