The Provincial Quality Control Board (PQCB) is established under Section 11 of Drugs Act, 1976 by the Punjab government. The responsibility of the PQCB includes scrutinising the cases sent to it by drug inspectors from all over the province and to issue further directions regarding the case. This year, the board has carried out a marvellous job and has taken action on a large number of cases. According to reliable sources, the cases upon which action is taken are the largest in number as compared with the performance of other provinces in the same domain.
In the year 2017, almost 2,000 cases were resolved. This outstanding performance of the board will definitely discourage the mushroom growth of unlicensed pharmacies and eradicate the menace of spurious medicines in the province. In light of the board’s achievements, it is important for the provincial government to further strengthen the board and to allocate budget so that the board can perform in an even more effective and efficient manner.
