Islamabad’s schools, colleges to get Rs3 billion revamp

Islamabad : The Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) has sent the PC-1 of the third phase of the Prime Minister's Education Reforms Programme for Islamabad to the Planning Commission for approval.

In the programme's third phase, development work will be carried in the federal capital's 200 public sector educational institutions at a cost of Rs3 billion. And the completion of that phase will mark the successful execution of the PMERP meant to upgrade or put up buildings, computer labs, playgrounds and other facilities at and provide buses to all 422 government schools and colleges in the Islamabad Capital Territory overseen by the Federal Directorate of Education working under the CADD's administrative control.

The information was disclosed by State Minister for CADD Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry during a ceremony held to inaugurate the Rs46.3 million project to put up the new building of the Islamabad Model School for Girls, Khanna Daak, on the outskirts of Islamabad. The minister said the school's current building was unable to cater to the needs of local girls.

He said the project's successful execution under the PMERP would ensure provision of education from grade 1 to eighth to 670 students.

The minister said the Prime Minister’s Education Sector Reforms Programme was launched in view of the government’s commitment towards provision of quality education to the local residents and to make the capital’s education system a role model for the rest of the country.

He said under the programme, serious efforts were under way to improve and upgrade the existing educational facilities in the capital city.

The minister said the programme’s targets were being met in phases.

He said the good quality of work on the programme was being ensured by a steering committee headed by him.
