KARACHI: Eight Pakistani players reached the quarter-finals in different categories in Qatar Junior Open in Doha, Qatar, on Monday.
Second seed Huzaifa Ibrahim got bye in the first round to reach the quarter-finals in under-11 category where he will face sixth seed Saleh Zaman of Qatar.
In the first round of under-13 category, Malik Abdul Moiz defeated fifth seed Waleed Zaman of Qatar 7-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-9 to move into the quarter-finals, but Nael Ashraf was beaten by sixth seed Kanhav Nanavati of India 4-11, 5-11, 5-11. Malik will play against fourth seed Muhammad Azhar of Malaysia now.
In the first round of under-15 category, Yawar Ashraf was beaten by 10th seed Adam Agan Bin Aziz of Malaysia 9-11, 2-11, 3-11; Naveed Rehman beat Jaber Daoud of Qatar 11-1, 11-2, 11-1; and 14th seed Bilal Islam was defeated by Youssef Khater of Egypt 7-11, 7-11, 5-11.
In the second round, seventh seed Talha Aslam was thrashed by ninth seed Danial bin Shahrul Izham of Malaysia 11-8, 8-11, 3-11, 10-12 and Naveed was ousted by eighth seed Muhammad Haris Ramlee of Malaysia 3-11, 4-11, 3-11.
In under-17 first round, 15th seed Kabeer Alam defeated Hammad Al-Amri of Qatar 11-8, 11-6, 11-8; Ahsan Ali Kashif lost to 16th seed Abdelaziz Omeira of Qatar 1-11, 7-11, 7-11; Khan Momin Nasir lost to 10th seed Pranay Jain of India 11-8, 1-11, 11-8, 6-11, 11-13; 13th seed Kashif Asif smashed Mojtaba Kafili of Iran 11-2, 11-3, 11-1.
Kashif beat sixth seed Krish Kapur of India 11-9, 9-11, 11-4, 11-2 in the second round. He will face second seed Yat Ting Harley Lam of Hong Kong in the quarter-finals, but Kabeer was beaten by fourth seed Cheuk Nam Matthew Lai of Hong Kong 5-11, 5-11, 7-11.
