Killing of young tribesman in Karachi triggers protest in KP
PESHAWAR: Protest rallies were staged in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday against the killing of a tribal youth, Naqibulllah Mahsud, in a ‘fake police encounter’ in Karachi a day earlier.
In the provincial capital, the activists of civil society and political parties staged protest to demand judicial probe into the case. Led by Dr Said Alam Mehsud of Pakhtunkhwa Olasi Tehreek, the protesters were holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans against officials of Counter Terrorists Department (CTD) of Sindh Police who had allegedly killed Naqibullah in fake encounter.
The demonstrators chanted slogans against the Sindh police and their brutal act of killing an innocent tribal youth.
“We stand against the custodial torture, forced disappearance, and extra-judicial killing of Naqib Mahsud, Prof Hasan Zafar Arif and thousands of innocent people of Fata, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” said one of the speakers on the occasion.
The protesters demanded the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the murder and suspension of SSP Rao Anwar until the inquiry reports and findings.
BANNU: The students staged a protest against the killing of Naqibullah Mahsud in a ‘police encounter’ in Karachi and asked Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar to take suo moto notice of the case.
The students of Government Postgraduate College took out the protest rally. They were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the Sindh police and in favour of their demands.
Waziristan Students Society President Jalal Waziristani, Haroon Ali Shah, Rasool Niaz Khan and others were leading the protesters.
The speakers alleged that the police had picked up the victim Naqibullah Mahsud, a resident of South Waziristan Agency, from his shop in Karachi. They said that later the body of Naqibullah Mahsud was handed over to the relatives.
The protesters said the police later took the stance that Naqibullah was associated with a proscribed organisation and was killed in an encounter.
They said that Naqibullah used to run a shop to earn a livelihood and was not involved in any anti-social activity or associated with any banned outfit.
The speakers said it was not the first incident of its kind, adding scores of Pakhtuns had been killed in similar fashion in Karachi in the past as well.
They asked for proper investigation into the incident and exemplary punishment to the cops involved in the murder to prevent such incidents in future.
It is to be mentioned here that Naqibullah had shifted to Karachi after the launch of the military operation in South Waziristan. He was running garments business in Karachi. The deceased is survived by three kids and a widow.
