The Indian army chief’s irresponsible statement about his army’s alacrity to call Pakistan’s nuclear bluff will hamper peace in the entire region. A nuclear war is no joke. The Indian army chief must remember the large-scale destruction caused when atomic bombs were dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Both cities were razed to the ground.
The adverse impacts of these ill-conceived and malicious attacks are being felt to date. Instead of locking horns, both countries must restart constructive dialogue to find a peaceful solution to their long-standing issues. We strongly hope the sane elements on both sides of the divide will intervene to de-escalate the mounting tension.
