Islamabad: Formed by the Supreme Court to run the affairs of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) last week, the nine-member adhoc council will have its maiden meeting here today (Thursday).

Council chairman Justice (r) Shakirullah Jan will preside over the meeting, where other members of the panel including attorney general Ashtar Ausaf, national health services secretary Naveed Kamran Baloch, surgeon general of the Pakistan Armed Forces Lt Gen Zahid Hamid, and vice chancellors of the National University of Medical Sciences, Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre Karachi, Khyber Medical University and Principal Bolan Medical College Quetta will also be in attendance besides the PMDC senior staff members.

The participants will discuss the day-to-day PMDC affairs, the next Council elections, and matters related to medical and dental colleges admission and fee. The adhoc council was constituted by the Supreme Court after upholding the Dec 2017 Lahore High Court judgment, which had dissolved the 35-member Council and outlawed the council’s admissions regulations of 2016 and the central induction policy of 2016.
