Puppet festival begins
LAHORE: Rafi Peer Theatre workshop’s puppet festival 2018, a four-day mega event on the cultural horizon of the city, is the biggest festival of its kind and a brave and timely gesture of courage, love for the indigenous cultural traditions and a befitting reply by the organiser to the enemies of peace in the awake of ever looming threat of terrorism to very Pakistani.
Kicking off at the Rafi Peer Cultural Centre in Green Acres, Raiwind Road on Thursday (today) at 10am and culminating on Sunday at 6pm, the festival is certainly going to be a memorable event for the Lahorites, especially the kids since it is the only festival of its kind being held regularly in the entire country for the last many years. The puppet festival is the largest cultural event held in Pakistan and is dedicated to promoting folk arts and crafts. Since the inception of the puppet festival 10 years ago, this platform has been instrumental in bringing the cultural heritage of Pakistan back to the mainstream. In a grand celebration of cultural performances from around Pakistan as well as from two foreign groups of puppeteers from France and Germany respectively, the puppet festival is set to be a delightful display of music, puppetry, dance and crafts.
The Rafi Peer Theatre workshop’s festival provides a beautiful opportunity to get out of the city and enjoy a day in sun, bringing together great performances, good food and a wonderful experience for children and families. The museum of puppetry is built over an area of one-acre on Raiwind Road. In a short period the museum has been able to establish itself as a popular destination of entertainment, learning and appreciation of art of local and foreigner categories.
